Topinka Salutes Tri-Valley Re-Enactors

SPRINGFIELD – Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka recently saluted the commitment of the 21st Infantry from Downs, which dedicates its time to preserving American history.

As part of the Illinois Office of the Comptroller’s “Veteran’s Day” at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Topinka presented groups and individuals from throughout the state with proclamations celebrating their achievements and dedication.

The 21st Infantry is made up of students, alumni and parents from Tri Valley High in Downs. Each spring they dedicate a day to Civil War reenacting called “Civil War Daze”. Under the direction of Mark McBride, Robin Roberts and Krissy Vaux, more than 50 girls and boys from Tri Valley High and middle school work with professional re-enactors to present a day dedicated to the Civil War.

“The 21st Infantry has selflessly worked to ensure we remember all the brave souls who fought in the War Between the States,” Topinka said. “Their efforts have made a difference to thousands of military families in Illinois and beyond, and it is my honor to salute their volunteerism.”
