Village of Downs 4th of July Festivities 2012 Press Release
The Village of Downs will kick off their 4th of July Festivities on Sat, 6/30, at 7:30 AM with the third annual Freedom 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, following up the race with a Kids’ Fun Run. The 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk will start in the circle drive at the Tri-Valley Middle School follow through the village and end at the Tri-Valley High School Track. The Kids’ Fun Run will start after the race and consists of one lap around the track. Each child will receive a ribbon for participating.
In the evening of Tue, 7/3, from 6-9 PM Sister Groove will play before the Fireworks begin at dusk.
On Wed, 7/4, the Annual Fireman’s Breakfast will be held at the Tri-Valley Middle School All Purpose Room from 7 AM to 10 AM. During the morning from 9 AM to 10 AM, the Baking Contest items, pies, cakes, cookies and cupcakes, can be delivered to enter in this contest that will have a judging team rank the baked goods as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and several top prizes will be awarded, which include Mayor Ryan McLaughlin’s Chocolate Cake. Auction of the Baking Contest will follow the parade.
Live entertainment will be in the Dooley Park from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM kicking off with Biscuits and Gravy, 2:45 to 5:45 will feature Elvis Himselvis. Kids of all ages come from towns around to see the Parade kick off at Noon. Last year’s parade was published on our Facebook Group page, Downs Dooley Park.
Children can compete in the Pedal Tractor Pull at 1:15 PM and Kid’s Games and inflatables, along with the Zoo Lady will paint your face and Barrel Rides will take place from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The Dunk tank will open at 1:30 PM with famous celebrities that are part of the community schools and government. At 2 PM, there will be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be held. For the sand lovers, a Sand Volleyball tournament will being at 1:15 PM.
