Village of Downs – Village Treasurer


Incorporated in 1917, the Village of Downs is a non-home rule Illinois municipal corporation with a population of 1,201.  The Village seeks an experienced, fiscally sound, and dedicated individual to serve as the Village Treasurer.  This is an appointed and exempt position.  The position offers flexibility in status and work environment.  At the direction of the Village President with input from the Treasurer and Finance Trustee, the position may be part-time or full-time.  The work environment offered is a hybrid of office and remote work.


The Village Treasurer performs a variety of routine and complex clerical accounting, finance, investment, tax collection, and administrative work in managing the short and long-term financial health and growth of the Village.  For a complete job description, please visit:


Minimum Qualifications

  •        Bachelor’s degree in accounting or five (5) years related accounting experience.
  •        Minimum of five (5) years of responsible experience in accounting, financing, budgeting, and reporting in the private and/or government sector.
  •        Equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and licensure.
  •        Must be bondable.
  •        Ability to operate a personal computer using standard software applications appropriate to tasks including Google and Microsoft 


Preferred Qualifications

  •        Ten (10) years increasingly responsible experience in accounting, financing, budgeting, and reporting in the private and/or government sector.


Plus Qualifications

  •        Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or similar professional financial license or designation.


Compensation and Benefits

The annual minimum salary or wage range for this position is $21/hour or $45,000 annually. The Village offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation, paid time off, holiday pay, and 100% employer-paid health, dental, vision and life insurance.
