Some first steps for the committee will be to provide recommendations to the board regarding:
· Future direction of the police/public safety department
· Develop a proposal for hiring a police chief, part-time officer(s) or interim police chief as a cost saving measure to expedite departmental goals
· Develop search committee
o Seek committee members with a strong interest to serve and establish public safety goals
o Solidify police chief duties based on ordinance
o Create job posting
o Determine where to post the position to attract qualified candidates
o Committee screens applications and conducts interviews
o Makes hiring recommendation to the board
· Conduct a needs assessment on:
§ Police Department work space in Village Hall
§ Assess Village resources, supplies, equipment
§ Connect with McLean County police database, McLean County officer sub-station
· Discuss process for e911 address updates process
